Coating of a 90-ton electric furnace duct work
CONTRACTOR:
Korea Jinsung Chemical & Ceramics
DATE:
June 2002

Background

Incheon Steel is one of the largest steel manufacturers in Asia and produces over 8 million tons of steel annually. When one of its 90-ton furnace ducts needed an internal and external coating to stand up to heat, moisture and a heavy industrial macroenvironment they looked to POR-15 to provide a solution.

Introduction to POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating

POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is a high performance, versatile aromatic moisture cured polyurethane coating designed for application directly on rusted or seasoned metal surfaces and concrete. It dries to a rock-hard, non-porous finish that does not chip, crack, or peel. Because POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is non-porous, it is an excellent sealer for porous substrates and it completely protects from water, chemicals, salt, and mineral oils. The highly porous characteristics of most substrates and traditional coatings permit harmful elements to penetrate which initiates deterioration. POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is the only coating that is able to protect and extend a surface or structures life expectancy due to its unique non-porous molecular composition. POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is also able to withstand prolonged exposure to temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

POR-15® Stop Rust System & UV Industrial Protective Coating Preparation

STEP 1

Surface was cleaned and degreased with POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser to remove surface contaminants that interfere with duct coating and restoration.

STEP 2

Surface was prepared with POR-15® Metal Prep to neutralize rust and corrosion with zinc phosphate and promote chemical bonding of POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating .

STEP 3

Application of two coats of POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating. Each coat was approximately 2-4 mils.
STEP 4

Exterior only Surface was top-coated with POR-15® 2K Urethane Industrial Top Coat Paint, a two-component extreme high durability moisture cured urethane.
